Medical Lab Technologist

Job description and education requirements for the employee of a high complexity laboratory:

This employee will fill two roles, one as the general supervisor and the other as the testing personnel of a highly complex laboratory for Arizona Rehab Campus. The general supervisor is the higher of the two positions and the education requirements are higher.

The General supervisor can either have:

1. Bachelor’s degree in laboratory science (medical technology) with at least one year experience in a high complexity laboratory with supervisors license.

2. Associates degree in laboratory science with at least two years’ experience in a high complexity laboratory. The regulation also states must possess a current license issued by the state if required. The state of Texas does not require such license.

The job description below will be a combination of both the general supervisor and the testing personnel to meet the stated requirements of the CLIA regulations.

1. The employee will be responsible for the day to day operation of the laboratory under the supervision of the technical consultant or CNO.

a. Monitor the daily performance of the laboratory through the stated quality control and quality assurance programs of the laboratory.

b. Perform and ensure that all corrective or remedial action taken if the laboratory control deviates from the laboratory’s stated quality control policy before any patients test results are reported.

c. Responsible for the sample collection and patient identification.

d. Perform and evaluate all patient and quality control testing.

e. To document and perform the monthly reviewed of the laboratory test systems as established in the quality assurance policy.

f. The employee maybe delegated other responsibilities upon request of the CNO or technical consultant depending on the situation.
