Partial Hospitalization Program

Partial hospitalization is a time-limited, structured program of intensive outpatient psychotherapy and other therapeutic services provided by a multi-disciplinary team. The program includes, at a minimum, one session of individual, group or family psychotherapy and two or more other services. PHP is sometimes referred to as day treatment. The goal of this program, which meets five days a week for six hours per day, is to provide services in a highly supportive environment.

PHP serves as a step down from inpatient care, but is still more concentrated than typical outpatient care. As clients at ARC progress, they’ll move from the inpatient program into partial hospitalization. For example, some who are battling chemical dependency won’t need the constant support of our inpatient detox and rehab, but would still benefit from a more structured outpatient setting. At ARC, our PHP program includes some of the following elements:

Medication Management

Many of those with mental health or behavioral health disorders at the core of their addiction benefit from certain prescription psychotropic medications during their treatment. Throughout PHP, participants might meet with a psychiatrist or nursing staff members to help manage these medications.

Group Counseling

Group counseling is an important element of PHP. It includes face-to-face contact with one or more counselors, who facilitate sessions with multiple clients at once. In addition to multiple clients, group counseling can include spouses, parents, or any other significant people deemed beneficial to the client by our staff.

Individual Counseling

Substance Abuse Education and Treatment

Understanding the underlying causes to alcohol and drug abuse, and knowing how these substances affect the body, are fundamental to a long-term recovery. With ARC, clients learn how addiction impacts and even destroys their professional, social, and family relationships. In examining the root causes and the effects of addiction, clients gain a better understanding as to how to follow the solid, supportive recovery plan in place for them.

At ARC, substance abuse treatment plans are comprehensive and multifaceted, carried out by our masters-level clinicians. Treatment plans are developed and carried out on an individual basis, designed to match each client’s treatment needs. Unlike many of the cookie-cutter treatment programs that utilize the same treatment for every client, the ARC team meets clients where they’re at, and personalizes their treatment plans as such.

Other elements included in ARC’s partial hospitalization program include:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT)
  • Dual-Diagnosis Program
  • Physical Activities & Recreation
  • Family Therapy
